2017 Columbiana County Park District Event Schedule

April 29th Saturday 9:30 am – Spring Cleanup of the Greenway Trail

Bring gloves, brooms, shovels, rakes and nippers and help us fight back the invasive vegetation, trash, and overall maintenance of the trail. We will be meeting at the Teagarden/Eagleton Road Parking area and splitting up into teams to tackle as much of the trail as we can. For more information contact the Park Office at 330-424-9078.

May 13th Saturday 9:00am – Nature Hike at Hellbender Bluff

A hike will start at the Lones Road Parking Lot in Hellbender Bluff Park. GPS coordinates 40.70836, -80.64789. Mycologist Walt Sturgeon, Park Board Member Mike West, and geologist Cheryl Mattevi will team up to explore the natural history of the park. We’ll walk down into the West Fork from the North Side, offering a view of spectacular scenery. Wildflowers should be wonderful, we may see some early mushrooms or birds, and views of the park’s rocks, and forests are always there! The hike is strenuous; bring water and a hiking staff if desired.

May 20th Saturday 10:00am – Hellbender Bluff Open House

Join us as we show off the new additions to the park. The newly installed pavilion and BMX/Pump Track will be on display as the newest addition to the park system. Feel free to come enjoy the new pavilion or take a hike around the park. bring your bike and enjoy the pump track and knock off some of the winter rust. If you are interested in volunteering to help maintain some of the hiking trails at the park see a park board member during the event or contact the Park office at 330-424-9078.

June 10th Saturday  10am Р12:00pm РNature Walk and Scavenger Hunt at Scenic Vista Park

Youth Event: Join Jason Reynolds, the Wildlife/Forestry Specialist from the Columbiana County Soil and Water Conservation District for a nature walk, learning about wildlife and where they live. Afterwards complete a small scavenger hunt around the park. Program will be geared towards children ages 3-13.

June 17th Saturday 9:00am – Little Beaver Creek Stream Sweep at Willow Grove Park in Lisbon

Join us in partnering with 6 states and 90 counties in keeping the Ohio River Clean. We will meet in Lisbon (700 West Lincoln Way, Just past the Rt. 30 Bridge heading west out of town) to clean up the stretch of the Middle Fork of Little Beaver Creek which runs along the bike trail. Bring gloves and sturdy footwear. Volunteers must sign a waiver of liability. Any volunteer under 18 years old must have a guardian sign the waiver of liability. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt.

 

July 8th Saturday 8:00am – 5:00pm Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail Benefit Walk Ride

Come out and support the Greenway Bike Trail at our Benefit Walk/Ride event. For years this fundraiser has helped us defray costs encountered in maintaining the trail. T-shirts will be available for $20. Starting points will be at the Trailhead 164 in Lisbon, Trailhead 558 in Franklin Square, and Trailhead Washington Street in Leetonia.

 

August 26th Saturday 6:00pm-8:00pm – Music at Scenic Vista Park

Spend an evening enjoying the music of the area’s premiere rock band, Pure Gold. Enjoy the scenery of the park while listening to the sounds of the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. We recommend bringing your own chair.

August 27th Sunday 2:00pm-4:00pm – Ohio’s Wild Mushrooms at Scenic Vista Park

Join Walter Sturgeon, the acclaimed mushroom expert, as he returns to the park with his wonderful program on the various types of mushrooms native to our area. For more information, visit www.ohiomushroom.org or email Walt at mcowalt@Comcast.net.

October 28th Saturday – 2nd Annual Halloween Dash 5k Run/Walk

Come out once again and join us for our second year of 5k action. Once again this year come dressed up and run, maybe you’ll win a prize for your costume.

Registration is required. Early Registration will be available shortly.

Star Gazing at Scenic Vista Park

Join the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society for their Annual Star Parties. Solar Observing lasts until dawn. Weather Permitting. They will be available with telescopes and their expertise to guide the public in a study of the night sky. Please dim your headlights as you enter the park and bring lawn chairs.

Yoga at Scenic Vista Park

Bring your yoga mat and join certified yoga instructor Dee Brown for her hour long DeStress Yoga sessions held throughout the summer. We will meet in the Covered Bridge. For additional information call Dee at 330-277-7586.
